Application requirements

Diploma/degree

• See non-exhaustive list below of qualifications by country (updated if needed)
   
• We will accept your diploma/degree/certificate if it grants (at least) access to a similar degree programme in higher education in the country where the diploma/degree was issued.
   
• We use international recognition databases, mainly UK Enic/Ecctis, to assess your diploma/degree.
   
• We expect you to have a score/grading comparable to 75th percentile or higher (e.g. GCE Advanced Level with a minimum C grade) or similar academic achievement.  Will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
   
• It is advised to have taken up at least some courses relevant to our programme.
   
  • SAT result above college readiness benchmark required for:   
    - USA high school diploma holders
    - holders of a high school diploma from an international school, other than IB/EB school
    - other specific diplomas, to be assessed on a case-by-case basis
    
    Our CollegeBoard (SAT) Institution Code is UC Leuven-Limburg.  Please make sure to share your SAT result with us in the CollegeBoard database.
  • We will also accept ACT math (minimum score 21) or OMPT-A (minimum score 60%), as part of a pilot project.
• If your qualification or transcripts are issued in a language other than Dutch, French, German, English, Italian, Spanish, you should provide a sworn translation in addition to the document in the original language.

• IELTS Academic or IELTS  Academic Online 6.5  (no section below 5.5)
  In case one section below 5.5, we accept IELTS One Skill Retake  or
• TOEFL iBT or TOEFL iBT Home 79 (we also accept MyBest Scores)  (no section below 18)  or TOEFL Essentials (8.5 overall, no section below 7) ** or
• Cambridge Assessment English B2 First minimum 180 (no section below 165) ** or
• ITACE B2 (test centres in Belgium only)  or
• CLT Leuven English level 8 (language courses + test) or
• No language test required if your diploma is issued in UK, USA, New Zealand, Australia, English-speaking Canada, Ireland 

We do not accept any other language tests.
Tests should be taken two years ago or less.

Diploma/degree

• We will accept the full English-language IB DP diploma without additional requirements and the English-language IB CP diploma which must be in line with the chosen field of study at UCLL. For EB diploma holders, language requirements may apply.
• Other transnational degrees will  be assessed on a  case-by-case basis

Language requirements:

no  further requirements for IB diploma holders if all courses are taught in English. 
For bilingual IB, EB degrees and transnational degrees English proficiency tests may be required.  For a list of accepted tests, see above under 'I have a diploma issued outside the European Economic Area'.

Diploma/degree:

The Flemish diploma of secondary education grants access to UCLL bachelor programmes.
Flemish bachelor's , master's degrees grant access to UCLL continuing education programmes.

No application necessary, you may immediately proceed to the online registration webpage (available in Dutch & English) in order to become a UCLL student!  Registrations will be processed from late Spring 2025 onwards.

Diploma/degree:

1. access to all UCLL bachelor programmes with

• VWO diploma or
• HAVO diploma + propedeuse or
• MBO4 diploma (preferably in a relevant field of study) or
• diploma issued by an accredited higher education institution in the Netherlands

2. access to UCLL continuing education programmes if you have obtained a bachelor's or master's degree issued by an accredited higher education institution in the Netherlands.

No application is necessary, you may immediately proceed to the online registration webpage (click 'English') in order to become a UCLL student! Registrations will be processed from late Spring 2025 onwards.

Attention! Diploma issued in Suriname

Applicants having obtained a diploma in Suriname must submit an online application, see degree issued outside the EEA and submit an English-language test if they wish to study in English at UCLL.  For degree comparison, see degrees issued in the Netherlands and Suriname

The 'Certificat d'enseignement secondaire supérieur' (CESS) grants access to UCLL bachelor programmes.
Bachelor's , master's  degrees issued by a recognised higher education institution grant access to UCLL continuining education programmes.

Diploma/degree:

UCLL offers a wide range of associate degree programmes and professional bachelor programmes.  All associate degree programmes and the vast majority of the bachelor programmes are taught in Dutch.

Language requirements:

If you hold a degree not issued in Flanders (Belgium) or The Netherlands yet you wish to apply for a Dutch language programme,  a minimum Dutch proficiency level of B2  (CEFRL) or equivalent is required at time of application*, see Taalvoorwaarden

UCLL does not issue conditional admission letters in order to start a Dutch language prep year
